Brighton Marathon

I've always loved running.  Actually, that's not quite true, I hated running until I moved to the West Indies where it was nice and warm, then I got into middle distance running ( I was 12 ).    Fast forward 25 years and for some reason I decided to run the Reading Half Marathon, having never run more than 4 miles.  I put in the horrible months of winter training and did it in a respectable time.  After a few more years of doing half marathons I was offered a place in the London Marathon a couple of years ago.  This was a big step up for me, and I never realised just how time consuming the training would be.  I completed it in under 5 hours and vowed never to do another marathon..ever.  So, here I am 3 weeks away from doing the Brighton marathon, everything aches, and I've got a 20 mile training run to do this Sunday...

I'm not running this marathon for me, I'm running it for Tim.  Tim is the husband of a friend of mine, Sandra Parsons.  I've worked with Sandra on a number of photoshoots and she is a lovely person.  Last year, after a bridal shoot in Brighton, Sandra told me that Tim had been diagnosed with lung cancer.  Eventually he was taken into St Barnabas Hospice near Worthing, for palliative care.  I suggested to Sandra that we do something to raise some money for the hospice, as they were doing a fabulous job looking after Tim.  We had both done marathons before ( well, I'd done one, Sandra has done two, many years ago ), so we picked the Brighton Marathon.  Sadly, Tim died in November last year, but here we are, 3 weeks to go and we've reached our target for fundraising ( more is always welcome though!).  Here is a picture of me just before running London, I didn't look half that cheerful at the end!  I'll post an update from Brighton once we've done it...
